ELECTION NIGHT
First there were the few days leading up to election night. A few teeny volunteer excursions with the Animalia and the Nina. Then there was election night itself. The Animalia ate, wandered and was carried by various people. She dragged her Tata around, dragged her Nana around and was generally cute. At some point her Tata wandered away and she wandered after him asking people for ¿Tata? with her tiny palms upturned when she asked. This was totally new. She had never asked questions like that before. Then right before Obama won! the Nina and I were outside watching the big screen and one of the analysts was talking about how great for young children if he were to win, with two little girls in the White House and an African American president. These children wouldn't know that it was a HISTORIC WIN, they would just know that it was normal. Then he WON! and we hugged and screamed and were so excited and I thought about the Animalia, that several years down the line she would say matter-of-factly that Barack Obama had been president when she was five and it warmed my heart that it would be matter-of-factly and not like something unusual at all. What an incredible thing.
